Customized hydraulic cylinders for Injection Molding Machine
Injection molding machines operate under some of the most demanding industrial conditions: high-pressure injection cycles, repetitive rapid movements, extreme temperature variations, and continuous long-duration operation. During a 24/7 production run at a large automotive parts manufacturing facility, a fleet of high-tonnage injection molding machines was deployed to produce thousands of precision components daily, including bumper fascias, instrument panels, and interior trim parts. Toleng Hydraulics provided a comprehensive range of custom-engineered cylinders for these injection molding applications, including clamp cylinders, injection cylinders, ejector cylinders, and nozzle contact cylinders.
Clamp Cylinder (Mold Clamping Unit):
Piston Diameter: 320 mm
Piston Rod Diameter: 220 mm
Stroke: 950 mm
Working Pressure: 21 MPa
Function: Generates high clamping force to keep the mold securely closed during high-pressure plastic injection, preventing flash and ensuring part dimensional accuracy.
Injection Cylinder (Injection Unit):
Piston Diameter: 150 mm
Piston Rod Diameter: 100 mm
Stroke: 250 mm
Working Pressure: 24 MPa
Function: Drives the screw or plunger forward to inject molten plastic into the mold cavity at precisely controlled speeds and pressures.
Ejector Cylinder (Ejection System):
Piston Diameter: 63 mm
Piston Rod Diameter: 36 mm
Stroke: 200 mm
Working Pressure: 18 MPa
Function: Activates the ejector pins to push finished parts out of the mold with smooth, controlled motion, preventing damage to delicate components.
Nozzle Contact Cylinder (Injection Unit Positioning):
Piston Diameter: 50 mm
Piston Rod Diameter: 28 mm
Stroke: 150 mm
Working Pressure: 16 MPa
Function: Moves the injection nozzle into tight contact with the mold sprue bushing, ensuring leak-free material transfer during injection.
Core Pull Cylinder (Side-Action Core):
Piston Diameter: 80 mm
Piston Rod Diameter: 50 mm
Stroke: 180 mm
Working Pressure: 20 MPa
Function: Operates side cores for complex part geometries such as undercuts, threads, or snap-fit features, retracting before part ejection.
Technical Highlights:
500 mm – The large-bore clamp cylinders on high-tonnage injection molding machines (2,000 tons and above) are engineered to handle extreme clamping forces exceeding 5,000 kN. Operating at up to 28 MPa, they provide the rigidity required to produce large automotive and appliance components with micron-level precision.
All cylinders feature advanced sealing systems designed to withstand continuous cycling at high speeds while maintaining leak-free performance in operating temperatures ranging from 10°C to 180°C (considering mold heat and hydraulic oil temperature fluctuations).
Integrated magnetostrictive displacement sensors provide real-time position feedback with ±0.1 mm accuracy, enabling closed-loop control for precision injection molding applications such as multi-component molding, thin-wall packaging, and medical device manufacturing. This level of control ensures consistent shot weight and part quality across millions of production cycles.
